OnTime Mobile WAP Edition
Support for Virtually Any Internet Enabled Phone
You don't necessarily need to have an expensive smartphone or PDA to tap
into the mobile aspects of OnTime. Using the OnTime Mobile WAP Edition
you can enable your drivers to access vital information directly on their cell
phone at very affordable rates. Of course this feature is free to use with any
OnTime account, but your drivers may be charged Internet access fees by their
cell phone provider. Regardless, this is usually very affordable both for the
phone and the Internet service.
What to look for to make use of the WAP Edition
WAP is short for "wireless application protocol" and it is the most commonly
support method for cell phones to surf the web on small screens. Often times you
will see that a cell phone supports WAP and this is your clue that OnTime will
work just fine with the device. However, our experience is that ANY device that
can surf the full Internet can run OnTime Mobile WAP Edition.
We say the full Internet because some cell phone providers, usually
regional service providers, only let their customers surf a small, controlled
portion of the Internet. In such cases you may have difficulty accessing the
OnTime services simply because the cell provider is blocking such access.
How to Use the WAP Edition
Upon signing up for an OnTime account, you can request that WAP access be
added to your account at any time, free of charge. Unlike the Windows Mobile
edition, there is no software for drivers to install on their cell phones. When
such access is added to your account, drivers will be able to enter a special
web site address into their phones. We recommend that the drivers bookmark that
site in their phone, making it possible to log into the service quickly. From
that point forward, the OnTime Mobile features are simply accessed through the
cell phone's built in Internet browser.
